Hello SELECT family! First I’d like to start by thanking everyone for attending the 1st Annual 1BALL Youth 3X3 Tournament. All of our players represented SELECT with pride, hard work, and sportsmanship. As always our parents also showed up in full-force to bring the energy for our boys!

The name “1BALL” comes from the appreciation of what one basketball can provide in building lasting personal character. Through one basketball a person can develop self-confidence while also recognizing the value of persistence and hard work in achieving goals both personal and with a team.

The 1BALL Tour was created to provide more opportunities for players to compete year-around in organized basketball games. In Shanghai especially, there’s a large community of basketball fans and players however there’s a serious lack of competitive games for players to develop their skills.

On May 23rd we had had over 40 teams and 160 players participate in our first tournament. The SELECT teams swept the U11, U13, and U15 age divisions with some great team performances! The energy and commitment from all of our players and families was palpable. After the tournament I received numerous text messages complimenting the competitive spirit at the tournament while also asking, “Who was the SELECT team, and how did they have such a big crowd? “

Going forward we plan to organize a Fall 5X5 1BALL Tournament this October and hopefully we can have the same commitment from players and parents. Bringing an active fan base to tournaments makes all the difference for the boys playing….not too mention the coaches!

Basketball’s much more than winning, scoring points, or being “the man”— It’s about developing strong character for our player’s future.
