A leader’s attitude is contagious

We can learn a lot about what to do or not to do by athletes in the spotlight. This past month the new look Cleveland Cavaliers had their media day and showed that they have the attitude of a championship team. I think there are three keys things that we can learn from this article that can help us to become a championship caliber team.

1. Understand that winning any type of championship takes time and hard work. We need to all believe that if we listen to our coaches and try our hardest at each and every practice we will be in the best possible position to be successful. Even the best player in the world knows that being a champion starts with letting go of your ego and listening.

“It’s going to be tough,” LeBron said. “… But if we’re patient and we’re patient with the process and everyone buys into Coach’s system and the coaching staff’s system, that will help us out a lot.”

2. Even if you are making $15,000,000 a year for being a great basketball player, being a champion requires you to acceptable accountability for your actions both on and off the court. There are no exceptions.

“We want people to look at us as one of the best teams because we’re going to have to hold ourselves accountable for everything that we do with our actions on and off the floor.” Love said.

3. Even when three of the best players in the world are on a team together, there needs to be leader to set a championship tone. If Lebron came out and clowned around, Love and Kyrie Irving probably would have joined in but since he has gotten to Cleveland he has stayed humbled, accepted the difficult road in front him and has given his full devotion to winning. Cleveland’s other stars have fallen in line and the Cavs look focused and ready to win. We are still waiting for our “Select” leaders to emerge.
