How to Shoot Like Steph

The only way to shoot like Steph is to make over 90% of your free throws, 50% of game shots, and 45% of 3 pointers. Those percentages are beyond difficult to achieve in the gym by yourself, let alone against the best defenders in the world. So how did he get to that level? How can you up your shooting game to similar heights?

Sick handles right? Did you see that step back? The floater? The patented look away? Amazing. Now, go back and press play on the video again. But this time, minimize the browser so you can only hear, not watch. No, really, do it. Seriously. Even if you listened the first time. It’s less than 4 minutes and will do more for your game than watching highlights. SERIOUSLY!

Success is a choice, and there are no shortcuts.  Know where you are in your basketball development, and respect the growth process.  Aspiring scientists don’t start out by trying to solve nuclear fusion. Young baseball players can’t expect to hit 99 MPH fastballs.  If you want to be a better shooter, you have to put in the time, and make proper use of the time you spend in the gym. The good news is that the choice is yours.

Chucking from 30 feet and turning away before your air ball doesn’t make you look like Steph. It’s silly and fun, but does nothing for your game. The 1 out of 20 that goes in doesn’t make you a better shooter. You’re not a YouTube star or a Dude Perfect team member. You are on a real basketball team, and you can’t just edit out your misses.

The goal is to MAKE shots, not TAKE shots.  Many players are too stubborn to change their shooting form because they like to shoot from outside. Well, if you want to make from outside, then you should open your mind to learning and practicing shooting with proper technique.
